phoenix's first bothy trip

Phoenix was on her first bothy trip just before her birthday. Technically it was a hut we were at which required no walk in, had beds and cookers which made it a good choice to break her in. It was a long drive north passing through Inverness to the remote and beautiful Glen Affric.

The kids seem to have a sixth sense about destinations and are sick five minutes before arrival regardless of distance travelled. They both kept that tradition going on this trip.

In the pub waiting on the other members of the party: Elaine, Janette and Carol.

Ready to go a walk along the river.

Charlie and Grandad make it back from the mountain.
The girls checking out the river. These are the 'what if..' pictures of the trip.

Strawberry Cottage is five miles from the nearest public road. The last five miles are on rough track and the River Affric can rise very quickly indeed. Grandad got a burst tyre this time, last time this track destroyed his bumper, and this is in a landrover.

Just look at the autumn colours in Glen Affric it is stunning, especially the flood plain, amazing!

Elaine and Janette hiking out to their car.

Fee is knackered but slept less on the road home than the road up.
